PLUS: Basketball Wives LA star Gloria Govan stars in two new online series on Shaquille O'Neal's Internet network.
Could this be the swan song season for the original Basketball Wives? Unless VH1 meets the ladies' pay demands, it could very well be. TMZ is reporting that the Basketball Wives cast members all want raises from network execs and if they don’t get it they are planning to walk off the reality TV show.
Filming is already underway for the fifth season, but star, creator and producer Shaunie O’Neal, plus Evelyn Lozada, Tami Roman and Suzie Ketcham do not have locked contracts. Sources say the wives are still trying to negotiate their current contracts by citing how well the show performs for the network. But so far, VH1 is refusing to pay the women more money.
The network execs also told the wives before shooting began that there would be no pay increases and that cast members who didn’t like it could be replaced. The ladies began filming despite the warning, hoping a deal could be arranged, but both sides have hit a deadlock. Sources now say that the wives have formed a united front and are planning to walk out next week if their terms are not met.
In other wives news, Basketball Wives LA star Gloria Govan is currently starring in two online series for Shaquille O’Neal’s new Internet entertainment site Comedy Shaq Network. The first is Backstage Confidential, an interview show that is a described as a cross between "Inside the Actor’s Studio and Entertainment Tonight.” So far, Govan has sat down with several funnymen, including Kevin Hart, Chris Tucker and D.L. Hughley. Her second series is Clean Ops, a short film action series where Govan stars as a ballerina by day and contracted hit woman by night.
