Denzel Washington, Middle of Nowhere Honored by African American Film Critics

The AAFCA also named Zero Dark Thirty its top film of the year.

Black film critics have spoken! Denzel Washington, Ava DuVernay's Middle of Nowhere and Kathryn Bigelow's terrorist drama Zero Dark Thirty are among those who have been awarded honors by the African American Film Critics Association this year.

Washington was given the Best Actor prize for his role as a troubled pilot in Flight, while Ava DuVernay's Middle of Nowhere nabbed four awards, including an acting prize for lead Emayatzy Corinealdi and Best Independent Film.

Zero Dark Thirty, Kathryn Bigelow's story about the USA's capture of Osama Bin Laden, was named the top film of 2012 by the association. Here's a complete list of AAFCA's Top Ten:
