Jennifer Lopez’s Extortion Lawsuit Gets Tossed
Jennifer Lopez just lost the first round in a court case with a former employee. TMZ is reporting that the singer’s $20 million extortion suit against her ex-limo driver has been dismissed. For those in need of a recap, here's a summary: first, Hakob Manoukian sued Lopez. He says he was forced to resign after being berated by the singer’s manager, Benny Medina.
After Manoukian left his position, Lopez claimed he also wanted $2.8 million from her. She says the former driver demanded hush money and threatened to share her private moments and secrets — which he overheard while driving her around — with the press.
Lopez then countersued Manoukian, claiming she was the victim of an extortion attempt. An attorney for the former driver then filed a motion to dismiss Lopez’s countersuit, arguing it was meant to punish the driver for filing the original lawsuit, a legitimate employment action against her. Finally, on Wednesday, a judge sided with Manoukian, and threw out the extortion claim.
The original lawsuit Manoukian filed against Lopez is still pending.
