Box Office: Pain & Gain Pays Off
Michael Bay scored yet another #1 weekend at the box office, though this time the take was considerably less than he's used to. The blockbuster director won a first place finish for Pain & Gain, his dark comedy starring Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.
At a $26 million budget, Bay's "small" film did reasonably well by taking in $20 million in ticket sales. The film also stars Anthony Mackie.
Meanwhile, the big news was at the overseas box office, where Iron Man 3 raked in an astounding $195.3 million, easily beating the record set by The Avengers. The opening sets the stage for what is anticipated to be a massive weekend for the film's release in America on May 3.
Along with Iron Man 3, the summer movie season kicks off next month with Hangover 3, Fast & Furious 6 and The Great Gatsby, all releasing in May.
