Box Office: Despite Mixed Reviews, Man of Steel Breaks Box Office Record

Superman reboot was highest-grossing June release of all time.

Man of Steel hasn't been a resounding hit with critics, but audiences have certainly flocked to the Superman reboot. The film, directed by Zack Snyder and produced by Christopher Nolan, grossed $125 million over the weekend and broke the all-time June box office record.
Starring Henry Cavill as a sobered-down version of the superhero, Man of Steel also sold over $100 million in merchandise prior to its release.
Ensemble comedy This Is the End, in which stars like James Franco, Rihanna and Seth Rogen play themselves during the apocalypse, came in a distant second place over Father's Day weekend with $32.8 million, followed by Now You See Me, which added $10.8 to its purse.
Fast & Furious 6 and last week's winner The Purge rounded out the top five. Will Smith and Jaden Smith's After Earth sunk like a stone to ninth place, picking up a measly $3.75 million to bring the domestic total of the mega budget action film to just $54.2 million.
Next week, Brad Pitt's World War Z rolls into town, along with Monsters University and Sofia Coppola's The Bling Ring.
