Cedric the Entertainer plays a pastor in the sitcom.
The Soul Man is keeping up with the times! The TV Land sitcom, starring Cedric the Entertainer as a former R&B star who becomes a pastor, incorporated the straight-from-the-headlines idea of same-sex marriage into a storyline, and we've got the exclusive clip.
In the scene, Cedric is paid a visit by a young lady who was a member of his church, and who wants the good pastor to officiate her wedding. When Cedric meets the young woman's fiancée, "Drew," he realizes he's in for more than he bargained for.
The sitcom is far from being the first to incorporate LGBT themes, but it's a bold move for the family-oriented show and a sure sign of a sea change in the way America views same-sex marriage, which was given a legal boost by the Supreme Court in June.
Check out our exclusive clip of The Soul Man below, and tune in to the show on Wednesdays at 11PM/10PM C.
