Madonna Blasted for Texting During 12 Years a Slave Screening

Material Girl got into a spat with audience member.

Madonna surprised audiences at the New York Film Festival on Tuesday when she showed up unannounced for a screening of Steve McQueen's 12 Years a Slave. But one audience member wasn't very impressed with the pop icon.
According to Page Six, a woman sitting in the theater was becoming increasingly annoyed by "a mysterious blonde in black lace gloves who wouldn't stop texting on her Blackberry throughout the first half of the movie." Not realizing the bombshell was the Material Girl herself, the woman chided Madonna for texting during the film and asked her to put her phone away.
Madonna, in true diva style, hissed back, "It's for business...enslaver!" She was, of course, referencing the film's darkly intense slave narrative, in which Chiwetel Ejiofor plays Solomon Northup, a free Black man from the North who is kidnapped and sold back into slavery.
Another moviegoer says, "Some people are shocked by this, because Madonna was visibly tearing up, everybody there thought that she was very moved by it." The eyewitness adds, "She really wanted to say hello to Steve McQueen and congratulate him."
12 Years a Slave comes to theaters on October 18 — appearance by Madonna not guaranteed.
