Mike Epps Talks Repentance , Playing the Villain

The actor also defends Zoe Saldana as Nina Simone.

Mike Epps is one of the best bad guys we know, from Jordin Sparks' abusive manager in Sparkle to his most recent role, Anthony Mackie's "bad brother" in Repentance. In our exclusive interview, he talks to us about his biggest regret ("going to jail") and his leading man ambitions.
The actor, who plays Richard Pryor in the upcoming Nina Simone biopic Nina, also takes a moment to defend his co-star Zoe Saldana against haters who don't think she should have been cast in the role. "Maybe the people that you wanted couldn't deliver," Epps says diplomatically, implying that those actors who bear a greater physical resemblance to the late, great singer than Saldana may not have the acting chops to pull off the character.
To hear more of Epps' views on the Nina controversy and a hilarious impression of Forest Whitaker, watch our exclusive interview below.
Repentance comes to theaters on February 28.
