Box Office: Lego Movie Continues Reign With $31.5 Million
The Lego Movie tops the box office this weekend for the third week in a row, grossing $31.5 million for a domestic total of $182.3 million. The film, voiced by Will Ferrell, Elizabeth Banks and Morgan Freeman, is still a far cry from Frozen's $980 million worldwide total, but is a rousing financial and critical success nonetheless.
The weekend's new entries, Pompeii and 3 Days to Kill, didn't fare nearly as well. Kill, starring Amber Heard and Hailee Steinfeld, grossed a modest $12.3 million for a second place finish, while the mega-budget epic Pompeii is a certified flop with only $10 million in the bank for opening weekend.
RoboCop and George Clooney's Monuments Men rounded out the top five with $9.4 million and $8.1 million, respectively.
Kevin Hart's About Last Night was crowded out of the top five this week, but still held strong in sixth place and $7.4 million. The raunchy romantic comedy, also starring Michael Ealy and Regina Hall, has grossed a healthy $38.1 million to date.
Next week, Liam Neeson and Lupita Nyong'o's Non-Stop enters the mix. Which film will it knock out of the top five?
