Sheryl Lee Ralph produced the disco-inspired show.
A glittery disco ball will descend over the New York theater scene on September 5, when the Off-Broadway production Might Real: A Fabulous Sylvester Musical shimmies into town.
Produced by Sheryl Lee Ralph, the stage spectacular stars Anthony Wayne (Pippin, Anything Goes, Priscilla Queen of the Desert), Anastacia McCleskey (Violet, The Book of Mormon) and Jacqueline B. Arnold (We Will Rock You, Priscilla Queen of the Dessert).
According to the show's press release, Mighty Real is "the brand new musical that celebrates the life of the original 1970s disco queen Sylvester. It tells the life story of the 'Queen of Disco,' Sylvester, through his music and his point of view. Beyond all the trials and tribulations of his life — and the glitz and glamour of his lifestyle — Sylvester was not only a symbol for being fabulous, but also a pioneer in the LGBTQ community for showing, unapologetically, you have to be true to who you are."
Mighty Real: A Fabulous Sylvester Musical begins previews on September 5 at the Theater at St. Clements and opens September 14 for a limited engagement through October 5.
