Box Office: Gone Girl Stays on Top, Addicted Opens Strong

Robert Downey, Jr.'s The Judge disappoints.

Gone Girl looks like it's here to stay — at the top of the box office, at least. The psychological thriller-drama, starring Ben Affleck and featuring a must-see appearance by Tyler Perry, was the number one film for the second week in a row, earning $26.8 million. The film is on its way to becoming director David Fincher‘s top-grossing film of the director's career — no small feat for someone with a number of hits under his belt.
In second place was Halloween offering Dracula Untold, which impressed with a $23.5 million take domestically and earning another $33.9 million overseas. Disney’s Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day came in third with a respectable $19.1 million for the Steve Carell starrer.
Rounding out the top five were horror film Annabelle and the Robert Downey, Jr.'s courtroom dramedy The Judge, which brought in $16.4 million and $13.3 million, respectively. The latter was somewhat of a disappointment for its producers, who were banking on being closer to first place with the Iron Man star's name on the marquee.
Meanwhile, Addicted, starring Boris Kodjoe and Sharon Leal, did very well with $7.6 million from 846 theaters. The film, based on the novel by Zane, will likely roll out to wider release next week.
Next week, the box office gets very crowded with the highly-anticipated social satire Dear White People, big budget war epic Fury (starring Brad Pitt) and family-friendly The Book of Life, voiced by Zoe Saldana and others.
