Box Office: Nightcrawler Ties With Ouija for First Place
Movie audiences were seeking thrills this Halloween weekend and put Ouija and Nightcrawler at the top of the box office. The horror film and the indie thriller tied for first place, each pulling in $10.9 million in ticket sales (Monday's final box office tally will determine which film will officially take the top spot).
The two films were boosted by the fact that major studios avoided releasing any big titles on Friday due to the Halloween holiday.
Coming in at number three was Brad Pitt and Shia LeBeouf's war drama Fury, which brought in $9.1 million. Gone Girl and The Book of Life, which brought in $8.8 and $8.3 million, respectively, rounded out the top five.
Next week, Christopher Nolan's Interstellar, starring Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway, will attempt to open with a bang. The film will go up against Disney's animated adventure comedy Big Hero 6 — voiced by Maya Rudolph and Damon Wayans Jr. — and yet another horror offering in Jessabelle.
