Aaliyah Biopic Draws 3.2 Million Viewers

Wendy Williams-produced telepic a hit despite criticism.

Looks like Wendy Williams has the last laugh when it comes to the Aaliyah biopic. The controversial film executive produced by the outspoken talk show host drew 3.2 million viewers during its premiere on Saturday night, making it the second most watched television film of the year. It was also a hit online, topping Nielsen's Twitter ratings.
Of course, a big part of the reason viewers tuned in to the film was likely to see just how bad it would be, and those who watched were quick to share their thoughts on Twitter and Instagram. One of the most vocal critics of the unauthorized biopic was Timbaland, who produced Aaliyah's sophomore album and was portrayed in the biopic by Izaak Smith. The music prodigy shared his feelings about the film by posting a series of memes on his Instagram.
Williams fired back at all the critics during her Hot Topics segment on the Wendy Williams Show on Monday. "I see my Aaliyah movie broke the Internet this weekend! Errbody got an opinion," she said. "Well, I must tell you, whether you loved or hate, you watched. It was the second-highest rated movie on all of cable this year so far."
