Bill Cosby Biographer Apologizes for Ignoring Rape Allegations

Plus, tabloid claims star sold out his daughter.

The allegations against Bill Cosby have reached a new low. A reporter for the National Enquirer claims the TV star leaked a story about his own daughter's drug problems in a bargain to prevent the tabloid from publishing stories about his reported sexual abuse, Page Six reports. The offensive incident allegedly occurred in 1989.
"Contacted by the Enquirer for comment [about his alleged sexual misconduct], Cosby apparently handed the weekly a story about his then 23-year-old daughter Erinn's battle with drug and alcohol abuse instead," the Enquirer reporter, who remains anonymous, says. "My editor told me that daddy Cosby was the source. He ratted out his flesh and blood."

Cosby was quoted in the ultimately-flattering story as saying, "Deep down inside, she knows we love her." Erinn, who, at the time accused Mike Tyson of sexually assaulting her, became estranged from her family until her brother Ennis's death in 1997.
Meanwhile the author of Cosby's biography, titled Bill Cosby: His Life and Times, is apologizing for not investigating the actor's history of sexual abuse allegations. Mark Whitaker, whose book was published in September, tweeted Monday that he was wrong not to “aggressively” look into the charges and promised to address them “at the appropriate time.”
“If true, the stories are shocking and horrible,” wrote Whitaker. His Life and Times has been widely criticized for idealizing the sitcom star, although Amazon included it among its best books of September and top 100 biographies and memoirs of 2014. The book includes blurbs from David Letterman, Jerry Seinfeld and Mary Tyler Moore.
