Kids fighting to save the planet are highlighted in the HBO documentary Saving My Tomorrow. With sea levels rising, the ozone layer dying and more extreme weather, it is young people who have masterfully taken charge when adults haven't. "Earth is our home," said Hippocrates Polemis, an 8-year-old featured in the doc. “We only have one and if we mess this up… Where do we go next? We don’t have another Earth right next to us just in case we lose this one.”
Saving My Tomorrow profiles kids, like Polemis, who spearhead efforts to prevent global and environmental ills ranging from global warming to nature conservation. And while the kids are undoubtedly the stars of this production, they have the support of several A-list celebrities to relay their message. Saving My Tomorrow features readings and appearances from special guests Tina Fey, Alan Cumming, Jeffery Wright, Pharrell Williams, Ziggy Marley and others, bridging the gap between advocacy and Hollywood.
The advanced screening of the documentary aired on December 4 at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City to an extensive group of children, their parents and individuals who share their passion for natural conservancy.
"We are thrilled to collaborate with HBO on this important program highlighting children's passion for nature and their instinctive sense of responsibility to care for our environment," said Ellen V. Futter, president of the American Museum of Natural History. "Our children will inherit the planet, so it is only fitting that their thoughts, concerns and inherent love of nature be a part of the larger conservation discussion.”
Though adults may have the assumed know-how of the operations of the world, the young people continue to prove that they possess more knowledge than they are given credit for. As 12-year-old Zoe said in the doc, "The adults clearly aren’t doing enough to stop this, so we have to take it into our own hands."
