Days after Chris Rock confirmed he is divorcing his wife of 19 years, Malaak Compton-Rock, things are already getting ugly. Sources tell Page Six that Compton-Rock is attempting to file for sole custody of their two children, Lola Simone, 12, and Zahra Savannah, 10, and prevent Chris from seeing them.
Chris, who filed papers in New Jersey last Tuesday, is seeking shared legal and physical custody. “He lives for his children,” a source says. “They come first. When he was doing a publicity tour for Top Five, he made it clear it had to be scheduled around being able to take his daughters to school and pick them up.”
Adding fuel to the fire are rumors that Rock is dating his Top Five co-star and longtime friend Rosario Dawson, but his rep firmly denies it, saying “There is no truth to that. The rumor is 100 percent untrue.”
The inside source added, “Chris just wasn’t happy in the marriage anymore. There is no third party involved...Chris and his wife had previously separated and got back together, so there have been problems for some time.”
The source also says that some on Rock's team were taken aback by the statement Compton-Rock, who is active in a number of charities, gave confirming the divorce. It included the line, “Being fortunate enough to lead a life of service by working with those most vulnerable makes me well aware of life’s blessings, even when faced with difficulties.” The source said, “It seemed odd to mention her work when confirming their divorce.”
The couple signed a prenup in 1996, but we’re told it could prove to be a sticking point in their divorce since it was created so many years ago and may have expired.
