Larry Wilmore Debates American Sniper Controversy

The Nightly Show host and guests tackle the chatter surrounding the film.

Published January 27, 2015

On last night's episode of The Nightly Show, host Larry Wilmore welcomed a group of individuals to partake in a panel discussion surrounding the public outrage over the film American Sniper. His guests included the founder and CEO of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, Paul Rieckhoff; Rolling Stone journalist Matt Taibbi; comedian Sabrina Jalees; and author of The Reaper, Nicholas Irving.

Rieckhoff kicked off the discussion talking about the brilliance of the movie itself and the taboo topic of veteran life it tackles: "It's communicating what we as veterans haven't been able to communicate for a decade," he said. "It feels authentic. It feels real... And that's why America's talking."
