Newspaper Rehashes Old Story of Jermaine Hopkins Drug Bust
Actor Jermaine Hopkins found himself the center of attention on social media this weekend, after a newspaper rehashed an old story of his arrest for buying 200 pounds of marijuana from undercover cops.
The Daily Mail ran the article on Saturday — four years after the incident actually occurred. No reason was given for the mishap, but it did turn the Lean on Me actor into a trending topic on Twitter, with fans waxing nostalgic about the epic drug bust.
Hopkins, who was 38 at the time, lived in North Carolina and traveled to Arizona for the drug deal. Cops had set up a sting operation. The actor got control of the weed from the undercover cop and left, but he was shortly pulled over and arrested.
Approximately $100,000 was found in his car and police seized an additional 100 pounds of marijuana at his Arizona apartment later. Hopkins stated he got involved in the drug deal so that he could give his family a nice Christmas.
The actor, best known for his roles in films like Juice and Lean on Me, may not want to be remembered for the jaw-dropping bust, but whatever has them talking, right?
