Season one of TV's "Black Dynasty" is wrapping up with explosive story lines, Grammy-winning guests, and an exclusive sneak peak of what's next from the show's co-creator Lee Daniels.
"Common, you heard that first," Daniels said, teasing appearances already lined up for the second season of his hit series Empire. He and the cast took part in a Q&A panel discussion during a special screening of the show's finale at L.A.'s Ace Theatre this week.
The director/producer also confirmed that longtime collaborator Oprah Winfrey (whose picture has been seen behind the character Lucious Lyon's desk) will also be added to the script. "Yeah, she's gonna be on it," Daniels said.
The series was picked up for a second season in January after a premiere run that is closing with a steadily growing audience — nearly 15 million viewers tuned in for the latest episode. Mary J. Blige, Naomi Campbell, Estelle, Cuba Gooding Jr., Jennifer Hudson, Courtney Love and Raven-Symoné have all made guest appearances.
However, the star power on that list doesn't stop cast member Jussie Smollet from continuing to dream big for the show and his character, Jamal Lyon. “I would love [to see] Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson and Kanye West,” he said of other stars he'd like to work alongside when the crew begins filming again. “And Brandy, because how much do we love Brandy? Come on.”
The two-hour, season-one finale airs next Wednesday (March 18).
