Acclaimed Tony Award-winning actress Audra McDonald is currently in final negotiations to join the cast of Disney's live action version of Beauty and the Beast.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, McDonald, who also starred in the popular TV series Private Practice, will play the role of Garderobe, which is French for wardrobe. Her castmates in the production will include Emma Watson as Belle, Dan Stevens as the Beast/Prince, Luke Evans as the vain villain Gaston, and John Gad as Le Fou, Gaston's sidekick.
The live-action film, which will be directed by Bill Condon, is closely following the storyline of the 1991 animated classic. In the original, the Prince is placed under a curse, which turns his servants into different objects in his castle. McDonald's initial role as the lady-in-waiting will transform into Garderobe, and, along with Mrs. Potts, a kettle, which will help Belle in overcoming her loneliness.
In addition to showcasing her impressive acting chops, the well-rounded star will also be displaying her amazing vocals as her character has a solo part in "Human Again," a song that was deleted from the 1991 movie.
Production for the live-action version of Beauty and the Beast begins in May at Shepperton Studios in London.
Audra McDonald currently has six Tony Awards, two of which include Best Performance by an Actress in a Music for Porgy and Bess in 2012, and Best Performance by an Actress in a Play for Lady Day in Emerson's Bar and Grill in 2014.
