The former Everybody Loves Chris-turned-Walking Dead actor mentioned Smith while discussing diversity in superhero characters. Williams noted that there are a lack of “young Black superheroes” just as two people in the background can be heard yelling out “Static Shock” and “Spider-Man.”
He grins and replies, “It’s great to see Static Shock as Jaden. We’ll see which way Marvel decides to go with Spider-Man.”
Static Shock is a Black teenage superhero with the power to control electricity. The character was introduced by DC Comics in 1993. Reports that Smith was up for the role began circulating last fall.
