Box Office: Tomorrowland Narrowly Beats Pitch Perfect 2
As summer approaches, theaters are getting crowded with more contenders for the top of the box office. Not even last week's winner, the mega-hit Pitch Perfect 2, would hold on to No. 1 for a second week.
George Clooney‘s new film Tomorrowland narrowly beat out the musical comedy over Memorial Day weekend. Disney's latest family-friendly movie raked in $32.2 million for its three-day debut and it is on track to a $40.7 million four-day weekend, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Pitch Perfect 2 came in a close second with $30.3 million and a projected $37.9 million over the four-day holiday weekend. The film is already considered a blockbuster and has earned raves from critics and fans of the original feel-good film.
Rounding out the top five were Mad Max: Fury Road — starring Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron and Zoe Kravitz — with $23.8 million, horror remake Poltergeist with $23 million and Marvel's star-packed superhero flick The Avengers: Age of Ultron with $20.8 million.
Next week, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's disaster film San Andreas will go up against Bradley Cooper's drama Aloha for the crown.
