After the massive success of Straight Outta Compton this summer, director F. Gary Gray has landed his highest-profile gig to date. The filmmaker is set to helm the next installment of the Fast and the Furious franchise, Vin Diesel confirmed on Monday night.
Deadline.com and other outlets reported that Gray was in talks for the action franchise, which will move on without the late star Paul Walker, but Diesel appeared to make it official by posting a picture of himself with Gray in his office, with a large frame of stills from the previous Fast films sitting between them. The project reunites Gray and Diesel, who worked together on the 2003 film A Man Apart.
The upcoming film, dubbed F8, is slated to release in April 2017. Watch our interview with Gray below:
