Box Office: Hunger Games Takes Out Spectre

Chiwetel Ejiofor's The Secret in Their Eyes cracks the top five.

Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 obliterated all competitors out of the box office this weekend. The final installment of the franchise opened with a little over $100 million, though it fell $20 million short of Mockingjay Part 1's opening numbers.

Still, it was enough to knock the latest James Bond film, Spectre, out of the top spot. That film, starring Daniel Craig, fell to second place with $14.6 million, bringing up a total of $153 million domestically. The Peanuts Movie came in third with $12.8 million.
Rounding up the top five was Seth Rogen’s The Night Before and Chiwetel Ejiofor's thriller The Secret in their Eyes, bringing in $10 million and $6 million, respectively.

This upcoming Thanksgiving weekend, Disney/Pixar’s latest animation film, The Good Dinosaur, and Creed, starring Michael B. Jordan, will threaten Hunger Games's reign on the box office.
