Angie Stone Says Idris Elba Was Lusting for Her, But She Wasn't 'Checking' for Him

She regrets passing up the opportunity.

Angie Stone could have been singing love songs about Idris Elba. The singer revealed in a new interview that the British actor had a thing for her back in the day, and she regrets shutting him down.
“When Idris and I were working on that song, Idris was actually crushing on me,” Stone said of her work with the actor on the video for “I Wanna Thank You.”
“The sad part about it is I wasn’t checking for him like that,” Stone continued. “And he was like, you know, we were very good friends, we had the same accountant, same manager, and for a very long time, he made it very public that he was in love with Angie Stone."
The reason she passed on the chance to romance one of the hottest men in Hollywood baffles the mind: "I had already been with D’Angelo," she said. "I didn’t know what to do with these good looking guys digging Angie Stone."
The relationship almost happened, according to Angie. “There is one weak moment that I had because I have a thing for beautiful teeth. And he came to the door, and I opened the door, and he was twirling this toothpick around in his teeth. And I fell on the side of the door like, ‘OK, what’s happening to me?'” she said. But, she added, she just couldn't take that leap. She says she remembers thinking at the time, “I will never date Idris, because he’s like my brother.”
As for how she feels about it now, she says, “Do I regret it? Absolutely.” At least she had a chance!
