Box Office: Creed Couldn't Knock Out Hunger Games

The Good Dinosaur also couldn't make Mockingjay extinct.

A flood of fresh talent at the box office over the Thanksgiving weekend wasn't enough to dethrone The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2
The final installment of the franchise took in another $51.6 million over the weekend, for a five-day total of $75.8 million and a global total to $440.7 million. To date, the entire Hunger Games film franchise has grossed $2.7 billion worldwide.
Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur led the new releases with $39.2 million over three days and $55.6 million over five, though the news was bittersweet since the film became the second Pixar movie in history not to open in first place.

Though it came in third place, one of the biggest successes of the weekend was Creed, which knocked out expectations for a three-day debut of $30.1 million and a five-day total of $42.6 million. The Rocky sequel, directed by Fruitvale Station wunderkind Ryan Coogler, features Sylvester Stallone reprising his role as the aging boxer and Michael B. Jordan starring as the illegitimate son of Rocky’s former opponent Apollo Creed.
Spectre and The Peanuts Movie rounded out the top five, with the James Bond film bringing in $12.8 million over three days and $18.2 million over five for a domestic total of $176.1 million. Charlie Brown raked in another $9.7 million over the three-day weekend and $13.6 million over five days, bringing its domestic total to $116.8 million.
Next week, the field seems wide open for Chi-Raq to make some noise and capture a piece of the box office purse. Hopefully Spike Lee's latest joint will inspire as much action at the box office as it has on social media! Watch our testy interview with the iconic filmmaker below:
