Amber Rose Reveals Painful Secret From Middle School

Plus, Muva says 2015 is the year of her "feminist awakening."

This past year, Amber Rose has re-branded herself from sex icon to modern feminist. In a recent interview with MTV News, Rose talked about experiencing a feminist awakening years after she was first slut-shamed, when she was just in middle school.
When discussing young women being sent home from prom for dress code violations, Rose admitted that she was sexually assaulted in the seventh grade when a boy put his hand all the way up her skirt. She explains, “I went to the principal and told her that I felt extremely violated…and she blamed me."

She also says that growing up in South Philadelphia, she was made to feel like she didn’t matter, and that classism is used as a weapon against women of all types even today. “There are Victoria’s Secret models who wear lingerie constantly, and no one calls them a h*," she says. "But if an Instagram model posts a picture of her in lingerie because she’s confident and she’s sexy and she’s happy with her body, she’s labeled a h*.”

It is fascinating to watch this new, empowered Amber Rose carve out her place in the world of feminism. It will be exciting to see what the best-selling author and SlutWalk activist does next in her quest for gender equality.
