With two days before the release of Halle Berry's latest film,"Things We Lost in the Fire," we continue our look at celebrity BFFs who once upon a time were close, but either voluntarily or invountarily, have gone their separate ways.
Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal
How long were they friends?:
The two played together for eight seasons and their relationship was just like a Hollywood script. After four disappointing years together, the dynamic duo with the addition of coach Phil Jackson won back-to-back-to-back titles from 2000-2002.
What tore them apart?:
Simply ego. There weren't enough basketballs on the court for both of them. Each wanted to be the brightest star in the L.A. sky, but because of his senoritity and league status, Shaq thought it should be him but the Lakers and Kobe disagreed.
Things Lost in the Fire?:
The Laker Dynasty, Kobe's golden boy image, Phil Jackson's coaching reputation and Shaq's playful demeanor.
Who Came Out Ahead?:
Both men professionally continue to thrive, but after being traded to the Miami Heat in 2004, Shaq won another title with the Miami Heat. Meanwhile back in L.A., Kobe hasn't had a sniff of another title since the departure of "The Diesel." Surrounded by mediocre talent, heaven only knows if Kobe will ever see another NBA title in his lifetime. and trade talks this year have added to the drama surrounding Kobe's future. After two rocky years apart, the two reconciled during Martin Luther King's Birthday weekend in 2006 and have enjoyed a cordial friendship since - a far cry from their tumultous time spent together several years earlier.
With both men going through recent personal crisis, which one do you think came out ahead?
Beyonce Knowles and Kelly Rowland
