As expected Disney's sticky-sweet singing and dancing teens rose to the top of the charts over the weekend.
"High School Musical 3: Senior Year" starring Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Corbin Bleu, Monique Coleman, Ashley Tisdale and newcomer Justin Martin, took in $42 million, a record for a movie musical. "HSM3" beat out formidable competition from "Saw V," which earned a more-than-respectable $30 million.
Coming in third was last week's top grosser "Max Payne," followed by the still barking canines of "Beverly Hills Chihuaha," "Pride and Glory," "The Secret Life of Bees," "W.," "Eagle Eye," "Body of Lies" and "Quarantine." "Bees," which placed third last week dropped down three notches, pulling in $5.93 million for the weekend and a total of $19.2 million in its two weeks of release.
"Noah's Arc: Jumping the Broom" opened in just five locations including L.A, New York, Atlanta, D.C. and Chicago and grossed $161,302, or an impressive $32,260 per site.
"HSM3" will have some stiffer competition this weekend with the opening of the hilariously funny "Zack and Miri Make a Porno."
