WTF had the pleasure of attending the premiere of "More Than a Game" at the Toronto Film Festival and now the documentary chronicling the high school team that LeBron James played on will be coming to a theater near you soon.
Lionsgate has acquired worldwide distribution rights of the film directed by Kristopher Belman and produced by Harvey Mason Jr. and Belman. The film, which started out as a school project for Belman, tells the true story of James, now an NBA superstar with the Cleveland Cavaliers, and his four best friends who had been playing ball together since they were 8 years old.
Lionsgate in association with Harvey Mason Media and Interscope Records plans to release "More Than a Game" in Fall 2009.
"More Than a Game is so much more than a documentary. It's a film that appeals simultaneously to niche viewers and broad audiences. That's not an easy feat to pull off, but thanks to great filmmaking, a great story and a great cast, More Than a Game is a slam dunk," said Jason Constantine, Lionsgate President of Acquisitions and Co-Productions, and Tom Ortenberg, Lionsgate President of Theatrical Films.
