Nothing Common About Common

Ok, so as an actor Common usually has no more than three lines, but he's making an impact on screen and not just with the ladies.

The Chicago-born rapper's current film, "Wanted," hits theaters next Friday with Oscar winners Morgan Freeman, Angelina Jolie and James McAvoy ("The Last King of Scotland," "Atonement") heading up the cast. Common plays a gunsmith who designs weapons that can do some pretty amazing things other than just fire bullets.\r
It's all in the wrist.\r
He plays the strong silent type in this flick (code: for he has few lines and then meets an untimely demise), but look for him to have a slightly more substantial part in "Terminator 4."\r
I'm playing the role of this character named Barnes," Common said. "He's part of the resistance with John Conner, like a freedom fighter. And I'm looking to do a lot more roles. I want to have a career as an actor. This is a goal of mine and I want to do anything from romantic comedies, love stories, dramas--i can take on roles of anything, I know I can. So, I'm going to create those opportunities, I'm looking for those opportunities so it can happen."\r
After having gotten some on-set dap from Freeman, Common might just be able to make that happen.\r
He did come over and he gave me some ancient wisdom, some real acting wisdom," he said. "He whispered something in my ear and when he did that I felt like chills in a way. This is Morgan Freeman and he’s reaching out for me. He cares enough to say, ‘Look brother, check this out!' I never reveal what he said because I feel like if you get something from a great warrior, you take it and just live it and not say it. He told me the things that he wanted me to know and I was just honored that he cared enough to give me that advice."
