It's been a while but Mario Van Peebles will be working behind the camera next month.

Van Peebles, who is currently starring on the daytime soap "All My Children," will begin shooting an action thriller called "Kerosene Cowboy" next month. Based on a novel by Randy Arrington, the film chronicles the exploits of some hard-living elite Navy fighter pilots. It stars Cam Gigandet, Shane West and Rachel Leigh Cook.

As a director Van Peebles is best known for "New Jack City," "Posse" and "Panther." The last feature film he directed was 2003's "Baadasssss!" which paid homage to his father, actor/filmmaker Melvin Van Peebles.
