Golden Globe Nominations; Mo'Nique Talks To BET About Nod
The 67th Annual Golden Globe nominations were announced this morning in Beverly Hills, California, by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Precious grabbed three nominations -- best supporting actress (Mo'Nique), best actress (Gabourey Sidibe) and best film.\r
I am surprised Precious did not receive more nods. It is one of the best films I have seen in over 10 years -- Black or White. Lee Daniels didn't receive a nod for best director. No screenplay nod either, but Neill Blomkamp for District 9 was nominated for best screenplay, which, to me, was one of the worst films of '09. Precious is one of the best screenplay adaptations I have ever seen. Also, nothing for original song -- I thought Mary J. Blige's "I Can See In Color" was a shoe-in for a nomination.\r
Dreamgirls received more nominations than this! Maybe if Precious was directed by a non-Black person, it would've gotten more love -- think Steven Spielberg getting nods for The Color Purple and the mediocre Amistad or Danny Boyle for Slumdog Millionaire. Fortunately, Lee Daniels isn't doing this for the awards, but as a moviegoer, I am disappointed.\r
Other notable nominations are Morgan Freeman for best actor in Invictus. The Princess and the Frog for best animated film. Chiwetel Ejiofor for actor in a miniseries or made-for-TV movie in Endgame.\r
