The decade-old organization is a pre-cursor for the Academy Award nominations. In the past, they have awarded actors like Jamie Foxx in Ray , Forest Whitaker in The Last King of Scotland and Jennifer Hudson in Dreamgirls -- who all won Oscars for those roles.

Precious was also named one of the best films of 2009.
