Mo'Nique Wins the Screen Actors Guild Award
This is no shocker, Mo'Nique is sweeping the supporting actress trophy from critics associations to award shows. On Saturday, Mo'Nique won again at the Screen Actors Guild in Los Angeles from the Shrine Exposition Center. She beat out Penelope Cruz, two actresses from Up in the Air and Diane Kruger from Inglourious Basterds. The award was presented to her by Morgan Freeman and a grateful Mo thanked the smaller but still significant roles in Precious and praised Lee Daniels, saying, "You never cease to amaze me."\r
No other people of color won at the Screen Actors Guild, but in attendance were Cuba Gooding, Jr., Mariah Carey, Morgan Freeman and others. Television legend, Betty White, was a Lifetime Achievement honoree. The impossible-not-to-like actress, Sandra Bullock, won best actress for The Blind Side, beating out the legendary Meryl Streep, who she was not up against at the Golden Globes.\r
Again, the Academy Award is all Mo'Nique's; her performance will go down in cinematic history as one of the greatest. However, the Academy is known for some legendary upsets so you never know until it happens. The 82nd annual Academy Awards will air Sunday, March 7, 2010 and the nominations will be announced Tuesday, February 2nd.\r
