The popular Broadway musical Rock of Ages is making its way to the big screen via New Line Cinema. Casting is being finalized, and Tom Cruise has snagged the lead role of Stacee Jaxx. Mary J. Blige will play Justice, the bartender and mother of a character named Sherrie. Rumor has it Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift are in the running for the remaining female roles.

One might think rock and Mary J. Bige wouldn’t mix. However, Mary J. is no stranger to rock music. The nine-time Grammy winner has belted out covers of songs by U2 , Led Zeppelin , Pat Benatar and Janis Joplin . This might be a perfect role for the New York native, who is still working on a Nina Simone biopic, which has been plagued with legal issues due to conflicts with Simone's estate .

Rock of Ages is a Tony-nominated musical set in 1987 Los Angeles. A small-town girl meets a rock n' roller, and their story is told from the classic rock songs of the time. This role will be Blige's first movie since 2009's I Can Do Bad All By Myself .
