Acclaimed poet, author and civil rights activist Maya Angelou has been appointed by the Hallmark Channel to host an unscripted television series titled The Spirit Table. The icon will be joined by renowned guests for a discussion of life stories and cooking.

Angelou, who is most known for her work in literature and activism, is no stranger to the small screen. The Spirit Table will debut in early 2012, and the 13-episode series joins a lineup of new programming for the network, including Emeril’s Table, a daily cooking show featuring Chef Emeril Lagasse.
