Fashion Report: Paula Patton, Chilli, Salt-N-Pepa and More Go Big at the Derby

Hats off to the ladies who styled at the US’ most fashionable race.

This spring has seen the resurrection of chic hats with ladylike toppers for Easter and funky fascinators during the royal wedding and this weekend was filled to the brim with even more bold and fancy styles at the 137th Kentucky Derby at Twin Spires of Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. The over-the-top hat tradition at the annual horse race exploded in the ‘60s and '70s and no hat is too big or too wild on the field. See how some of the ladies kept it cool this year:

Jumping the Broom star Paula Patton went for something blue with her white Vivian Westwood dress by way of a Louise Green designed hat and navy suede heels.

Chilli was a modern-day belle in her black derby hat and she packed on all the frills with a form-fitting floral dress and pink peep-toe heels with bow detail.

Salt-N-Pepa shook things up with these funky creations. Pep was definitely a mad hatter in a screaming fuchsia creation!

Jordin Sparks updated the trend in this youthful casual look. The singer skipped a dress and wore a blazer, cozy T-shirt and skinny jeans punched up with nude heels that matched her subdued hat.

Tichina Arnold’s hat may have been the smallest of the bunch, but with its wild print and flower she still stood out in cream separates and chunky jewelry.
