June Ambrose Explains Denim Done Right
Many trends fly in and out of your closet, but denim always does you right. The classic fabric has no expiration date and it continues to reinvent itself each season. But what’s the true key to figuring out what looks right on you? Stylist du jour June Ambrose sheds a little fashion insight on what to look for when shopping for what she calls “second skin.”
She encourages fellow style mavens to ditch tempting fads. “It’s less about trends with denim. You shouldn’t follow denim trends unless it’s a fashion piece…like a jumper. If you’re talking about the basic denim, you don’t have to worry about that being a trend item. Just know that you should own it.”
The goal should be to emphasize your shape, says Ambrose. “The questions now become, ‘Do you look great in a skinny jean? Can you pull off a wide leg?’ It’s more about what silhouette works, because, remember, denim has become a staple that’s timeless.”
Some of our favorite cuts this season include true blue '70s-inspired flares, skinny stretch, boyish denim button up shirts, cropped cuts and low-rise denim shorts.
