Hip Hop's Super Group Shows Off Their Style

The Roots get tapped by John Varvatos for his fall '11 campaign.

It’s an unarguable fact that The Roots are beyond cool. Their naturally eclectic, soulful, funky vibe would be a powerful muse for any artist. Designer John Varvatos took notice and decided to immortalize their energy for his fall ’11 ad campaign.
The images, shot by photographer Danny Clinch and conceived by Stephen Niedzwiecki, creative director of the Yard agency in New York, feature the hip hop band exiting an airplane at Republic Airport in New York. The concept was inspired by now iconic photos of other bands, like The Beatles, making their flashy appearances.
“The Roots are one of the most creative musical forces on the planet,” Varvatos said in a written statement. “Their performances with almost every music icon in the world, of all genres, are mind-blowing and inspiring.”
