Annie Ilonzeh wishes more actresses wouldn't be so quick to iron out their kinks.
Annie Ilonzeh of Charlie’s Angels is blazing a trail for a legion of young, African-American actresses hoping to score similar primetime roles. Her bevy of beautiful curls is also gaining quite a bit of attention. Amidst a sea of long weaves, Ilonzeh opts for her naturally curly coif on the show.
She reveals to The Urban Daily that she and show producers had a discussion about her mane before filming. “I wear my hair natural, but I have a few pieces I’ll use when I go undercover on the show. But the producers want me to wear my hair natural, to be true to Annie, instead of washing me into a different person, of what society thinks is more appealing.”
Should other actresses rock their natural hair? “I would say go for it,” the actress encourages. “You see women who shave their head and I think that is the most beautiful thing. You should wear your hair however you feel comfortable.” Ilonzeh has a refreshing lack of concern when it comes to other people’s opinions of her textured mane. “I wake up with dreds some mornings because my hair locks up, but I just work with it. You’re never going to please everyone, so you should find your own beauty.”
Words to live by.
