Talented divas sit around the table to celebrate the accomplishments of Black women all over the world.
Founder of Black Girls Rock! Beverly Bond hosted a “Shot Callers Dinner” on Friday (October 14) night to begin the celebration of the 2011 BGR! awards. Black Girls Rock honoree Tatyana Ali was on hand, as well as former honorees, music executive Sylvia Rhone, fashion activist Bethann Hardison, and radio personality Lisa Evers. Other notables in attendance included BET’s Chairman Debra Lee, music executive Andre Harrell, celebrity publicist Marvet Britto and community activist Nicole Bell.
The dinner, sponsored by Target and Chevrolet, was held at ’s Vermillion restaurant. A silent auction brimming with highly coveted Missoni by Target items was one of the evening’s highlights. R&B singer Bridget Kelly serenaded the dinner guests with a beautiful rendition of Christina Aguilera’s “Beautiful.” The evening culminated with a rousing speech by Beverly Bond explaining why she was “called” to create Black Girls Rock!. Bond said she experienced an epiphany when she was listening to the radio and heard Tupac’s Keep Your Head Up and the lyrics became a call to action.
The love and the respect in the room was abundant, the epitome of Black Girls Who Rock!
