Jennifer Hudson visited a Chicago community center on Tuesday to honor her slain nephew by handing out school supplies for the second annual Julian King Hatch Day. The singer and her sister, Julia Hudson, gave out supplies to 5,000 low-income students at the Kroc Corps Community Center in West Pullman — double the amount from last year.

"That's the overwhelming part. Like, wow, to see how it's snowballing.... And this is only the second year. That's our dream, to see it grow and grow and grow and grow, because the more it grows the more people we can help," said Hudson.

William Balfour, Julia Hudson's estranged husband, was sentenced to three consecutive life sentences in May for killing their mother, Darnell Donerson; their brother, Jason Hudson; and Julian in 2008.
