The show hopes to promote Black fashion and African-inspired themes.

Last Friday marked the debut of the first Black Fashion Week in Paris. The event, which launched soon after Paris' official Fashion Week came to a close, was created by Senegalese designer Adama Ndiaye as a way of bringing exposure to designers and models that have a hard time getting mainstream attention. Critics believe this will drive a wedge further between Blacks and other races in the industry, but Ndiaye explains that Black Fashion Week is not about exclusion, but rather promoting and praising Black fashion and African themes.
"This is not a fashion show by Black people, for Black people," Ndiaye told France24. "It's part of a movement, like 'Black music' and 'Black art,' and it is inclusive of all the people that are drawn to it."
After Paris, Black Fashion Week will head to Montreal in November and Brazil's Salvador de Bahia in March.
