Alicia Keys is staying true to her latest album's name on the cover of Essence's January 2013 issue. The Girl on Fire singer is looking festive and happy in a red Lanvin ensemble, and why wouldn't she be? Keys just released her fifth studio album, which debuted at number one on the Billboard charts this week, and she's about to embark on a worldwide tour to promote it. Add to that her AIDS activism and her role as mom to two-year-old Egypt and we're left wondering how the 31-year-old manages.

"It's okay if I can't do every single thing. I finally understand that it doesn't make me a lesser artist or human being," she says.

She might look like she has it all under control, but aside from learning how to use the word "no," Keys has no problem seeking help when she and her family needs it. During Hurricane Sandy in October, Keys and her family had to flee their home in New York City's SoHo neighborhood when they lost power during the storm.

"After the third or fourth tuna fish sandwich, and after we learned we'd be without power for a week, I called my mother, who lives Uptown. She was okay and hadn't lost any power, so we ended up going to her house. We were pretty lucky," she says.
