Most designers had their garments on the runways at Lincoln Center for New York Fashion Week, but Rachel Roy took a different path. While Diddy hosted the first ever Instagram-only fashion show, Roy released a digital runway show.
“Fashion week has become increasing busy and hectic,” she added. “I wanted to create a different experience that transcends just a brief moment in time and deliver it in a different way so people can take the time and experience it at their own pace.”
The designer unveiled her collection on her Facebook page in a five minute video, offering viewers an up close and personal look at her Fall/Winter line. Fashion lovers everywhere can see the intricate, heavily embroidered pieces, smooth velvet textures and animal-motif belts.
Roy loved the idea of fashion being accessible to anyone anywhere, not just celebs and industry insiders. She told Huffington Post Live, "When I was a girl, I wanted to watch a fashion show and never had access to it. And now, the same day that my buyers and editors see my show, so can a young girl or young boy in her home."
And if you thought a digital fashion show was cheaper than the conventional route, Roy quickly debunked that belief, stating her digital project actually cost more due to the added price of building a set and hiring a camera crew and editing staff.
