Kim Kimble Chats About Oprah's Look for O Magazine 's Hair Issue

The hairstylist describes how she was approached and details on the impressive Afro.

When the cover for O Magazine's September issue was released last week, we couldn't believe how amazing Oprah Winfrey's afro looked! It was a wig and not the media mogul's own hair, but we're still impressed. In the Chicago Sun Times, the woman behind the look (as well as countless styles for Shakira, Brandy, Rihanna and now the short-haired Beyoncé) Kim Kimble talks about getting pulled in for the cover.
"I saw Andre, Oprah's hair stylist, on the set of The Voice, when I was working with Shakira. He said, 'I need a really big afro wig.' I said, 'I have just the thing for you,'" Kimble said.
What was presented was a 3.5 pound custom afro wig made from seven bags of hair that was bubble wrapped and delivered in a bright pink travel box for the photoshoot in June.
"Oprah looks absolutely fabulous in it. But she's amazing," the hairstylist added. As for her take on the ongoing issues some Black women go through with their own hair, Kimble said to just rock what you love.
"I say, whatever makes you feel good and creates your confidence, do it," she said. "If you prefer natural, go for it. If you like long weaves, I'm not mad at that either. It's only hair. At the end of the day, it's an extension of your style, your image. So whatever makes you feel good, rock it."
