Kerry Washington Goes for High Fashion in Flare 's October Issue
Kerry Washington's magazine takeover continues. Just days after the release of her Glamour cover, the actress is gracing the October issue of Flare magazine and she's going for high fashion in this photo shoot. On the cover, Washington wears a $2,585 pink and navy polka-dot Miu Miu trench coat and that's just the beginning. Inside, she sports styles from Jason Wu, Proenza Schouler, Maison Martin Margiela, Dior, Narciso Rodriguez, Balenciaga, Marc Jacobs and Dolce & Gabbana.
During her interview, the Scandal star opens up about the demands of her role as Olivia Pope in the popular drama and how she prepares for the job.
"You have to think about eating right and sleeping right and taking care of your physical machine because the demands are so intense," she says.
She even records her lines and plays them back while she works out on the treadmill to take advantage of those rare downtimes and avoids reading fiction books so she doesn't lose focus on the job.
Washington, who grew up in the Bronx and attended the prestigious all-girls Spence School in Manhattan, recalled her days at the academy and how it sparked an interest in people's behavior.
"It changed the landscape of possibility for me, and not just socioeconomically, but in all kinds of ways," she says. "The people spoke differently and dressed differently and ate differently and walked differently and smelled different; everything was different," she says. "It really started in me this curiosity [about] how people express identity through culture."
