The 19-year-old college sophomore opens up about her fave shops and feminism.
New York City's newest mayor Bill de Blasio wasn't the only one getting attention during his campaign. His 16-year-old son Dante and 19-year-old daughter Chiara also basked in the spotlight for their earnestness and looks on the campaign trail. Curious as to what makes her tick, Teen Vogue has tapped the sophomore college student for a fashion shoot that shows off her down-to-earth style. Looks included a floral Jill Stuart dress and Clover Canyon printed dress accessorized with her own headband and earrings.
De Blasio, who's majoring in environmental studies in California, listed Asos, thrift stores and DIY accessories as her style cornerstones. Her Urban Outfitters' floral headband stole the show when her father won the primaries in September and for her interview she donned another gold chain headband, which was on sale from the same popular retail store.
But she's not only concerned about her looks as de Blasio credits her parents for instilling a sense of activism and being passionate about issues like LGBT rights, homelessness and women's rights.
"I think it's really cool how there's a new wave of teen feminism," she says. "Women really need to focus more of their energy on building each other up instead of competing with one another. It's such a huge problem. And I've definitely noticed a lot more people identifying as feminists — a feminist doesn't have to be any particular kind of person! You can officially count me in on that movement. I'm definitely there."
