Lupita Nyong'o's latest magazine conquest is a strikingly gorgeous cover for Dazed & Confused's "Girls Rule the World" issue. They couldn't have found a better cover girl to cement that message as the 12 Years a Slave star is currently having the best start to the new year ever. The photo shoot, which was shot by Sharif Hamza and styled by Robbie Spencer, features the Golden Globe-nominated actress decked in layers and bold ensembles from Dolce & Gabbana and velcro sandals from Prada.
In her interview, Nyong'o chats about shattering stereotypes of women in Hollywood and who she considered her first acting role model.
"The first time I thought I could be an actor was seeing The Color Purple," Nyong'o says. "Whoopi Goldberg looked like me, she had hair like mine, she was dark like me. I'd been starved for images of myself. I'd grown up watching a lot of American TV. There was very little Kenyan material, because we had an autocratic ruler who stifled our creative expression."
Now she's sure to be relishing the buzz surrounding her powerful role as Patsy in 12 Years a Slave and being fashion's It Girl of the moment, which is surely giving countless other hopeful young women the inspiration to go for their own dreams.
Catch the colorful photo shoot when the February issue hits stands February 16.
